With a growing squad of more than 40 players TROJANS field two teams, TROJAN BLACKS and TROJAN REDS, so that all players, regardless of experience and ability, have a chance to play for Wymondham.
TROJAN BLACKS is the squads primary team. At all times it will be our strongest team for our chosen game plan.
TROJAN REDS is our development team. It will give playing opportunities to lesser experienced players, players recovering from injury and additional opportunities for coaches to observe/assess players.
Many Players also play for their schools, and/or are included in the Norfolk or Eastern Counties squads. RFU guidelines warn against overplaying young players so school and representative games will be noted and influence selection. No player should play more than 2 games a week.
Team selection will generally be made following mid-week training on the Wednesday prior to the fixture being played. Any player not available for selection to play a forthcoming fixture should notify the coaches before selection is made. All coaches advise and make recommendations to the team selection but the Head Coach is responsible for the final team. Any player wishing to discuss selection should contact the Head Coach.
Occasionally players who would expect to be selected for the BLACKS will appear selected for the REDS. This may simply be to give that player a starting place and opportunity to play a full match rather than stand around as a substitute and play only a few minutes. It may be because the game plan does not suit their style of play. Or it may be to give another player an opportunity. At all times it should be remembered that the coaches aim is to select the best team, not the best individuals.
Selected teams will be published as soon as possible on the fixture document and notification will be distributed, via e-mail, to all TROJANS contact addresses. Any player selected but subsequently not available should contact the coaches as soon as possible.
