As the two teams took to the field on this bright but cool morning the home team appeared to be suffering the most from the effects of the start of British Summer Time and the opposition had the best of the opening encounters. But as Trojans settled into the game their forwards began to dominate the breakdown and edge their way towards the L&Y red zone.

Trojan forward power combined with quick hands in their back line had the L&Y defence working hard to keep them out but within seconds of having their first try disallowed Coleman with a low drive crossed the line for Trojans first score of the day.

Trojan confidence now running high they made it 12-0 on 10 minutes with a powerful run from Monk and a conversion by Ford.

From the restart Trett caught the ball 15m inside Trojan’s half, danced his way through the entire L&Y defence, crossed the line only to be tackled behind the post and lost the ball forward in what must go down as the best individual non-try of the season.

L&Y showing they were no pushover had several runs at Trojans but were unable the breach the defence with Finch and Wang picking off the ball carriers repeatedly and forcing turn overs.

Captain Rowe made it 17-0 with a typical jinking run through the defence and fellow back rower Miners followed it up with another as we moved towards half time.

Two replacement in the forwards & another two in the back did little to alter Trojans impact on the game. The reorganised L&Y defence held on gallantly for over 5 minutes knocking back wave after wave of attacks until Rowe at No 8 took the ball from the base of a scrum 15m out and slicing through the defence for an easy second score.

With all 5 tries so far coming from the forwards who continued to break away with runs from Miners & Mullane. But L&Y defenders were tiring and as play broke up Montgomery sealed the comprehensive win with a brace of tries, the first converted by Mathews.

Credit has to go to L&Y for not giving up and making this a match worthy of a final.

"Another Nailbiter"

 Wymondham welcomed a slightly depleted but determined Crusaders side to Tuttles Lane. After clearing the remains of a dead animal from the pitch (not last weeks opposition!) the game could commence. The game made a really positive start with both teams demonstrating that they were committed to delivering a keen contest. There was good early play from both sides and only robust defence prevented any score.

Wymondham were the first to cross the try line but Toby S. was judged not to have grounded the ball cleanly. Crusaders fought back and applied pressure to the Wymondham line. The Wymondham defence held out with some good tackling from both backs and forwards.

The game moved from end to end with both sides having their share of territory and possession. The deadlock was finally broken when Crusaders were awarded a penalty near the Wymondham posts. They elected to kick which they did successfully, which proved to be decisive.

Wymondham fought back immediately and some good interplay between backs and forwards allowed Chey to score the first try for Wymondham, converted by Ben.

Crusaders then applied pressure to the Wymondham line leading to a fine try. The half was finished off by a great move won by the forwards and moved gracefully out along the line and a fine try by Jack M in the corner to take the half time score to 12- 8 to Wymondham.

The second half carried on as had the first with some very competitive even play. Crusaders were awarded a penalty under the Wymondham posts and crashed over amidst some uncharacteristically weak Wymondham tackling. The game continued with some strong running, in particular from Toby S and Sam and some great tackling from the likes of Patsy and Nathan. Jo PB, despite carrying an injury was dynamic in the loose. Wymondham spend some time without the ball and despite some great defence conceded another try (scored by Gregor) to leave the deficit 8 points.

Wymondham in the dying minutes of the game scored a great last try, courtesy of Jack H. but were unable to repeat this and so the final score was a nailbiting 19-20.

MVP for his immense tackling in the centre was Patsy.
