Wymondham travelled to Peterborough expecting to have to play well to get any reward in this game. Starting fast is always important and from the kick off Wymondham exerted pressure and won a turnover. Quick recycling and good pattern play resulted in Walsh running through the defence and scoring within two minutes of the kick off. Conversion kicked by Kaciubskyj .
From the kick off Wymondham again attacked with a powerful run from Lockwood making inroads deep into the Peterborough half before the ball went into touch. From the resulting lineout possession was won back and efficient rucking released a sprinting Perry who, once the defence were beaten, foiled herself to give the opposition a 22 metre restart.
With superior pace Wymondham played with width and Crowther was soon to get her first of four tries and her first for Wymondham after 13 minutes. Wymondhams’ pressure was unrelenting and all enveloping and positive defence from the back row soon turned the ball over and once again the elusive Crowther scored under the posts making the score 21 – 0.
A t this point some were beginning to feel the effects of a long weekend and a momentary lapse of concentration handed Peterborough an opportunity which they took, scoring wide out to the right of the posts. A stern talking to by stand in captain Dyche reenergised the Wasps who within four minutes of Peterboroughs try got another for themselves scored by the rambunctious Lockwood. At the end of the half Wymondham led 26 – 5.
The second half was to start in the same vein as the first when within one minute Crowther ran in her third of the day. This brought about a resurgence from Peterboroughs’ larger forwards who began to make some ground. Although Wymondham defended resolutely, eventually a gap appeared and Peterborough were rewarded with a try.
Peterborough won possession from the kick and began to work through the phases until spinning it wide gave Eldridge the opportunity to grasp a speculative pass and run in unimpeded under the posts conversion again scored.
The game entered a period where both sides nullified the attacks of the other and no score happened until the 27th minute when the indomitable Crowther scored her fourth of the game.
The result was never in doubt when a mistake in their own 22 let the Peterborough eight score their final try in the final act of the day. Final score Peterborough 15 Wymondham 45.
