Wymondham entered into their first home game full of confidence after beating Hitchin in their last outing. The game started with Buzzard on the attack working their way into the home sides 22. Wymondham responded with resolute defence and patient play working their way down the pitch. Good balanced running and dazzling footwork from debutante Crowther put pressure on the Buzzard defence and eventually, late arrival, Dyche crashed over for the first score.
Wymondham continued in this vein creating scoring opportunities which were not capitalised on until the omnipresent Perry forced her way over showing good strength to get the ball down. At the break Wymondham were 10 - 0 up but wondered if they would rue the missed chances.
Turning around and playing into the wind the home side knew they would have to start well. From the kick off the rampaging Lockwood took the ball to the defence broke through several tackles and set the ball up five metres out from Buzzards line. Three quick recycles and good pattern play allowed the irrepressible Kaciubskyj to exploit the smallest of gaps and score converting her own try.
Any rhythm to the game was lost with multiple stoppages for injuries however some good play from the home side saw Clarke enter the line at pace and get to within five metres of the line before a good cover tackle put her into touch. Wymondham continued to pile on the pressure and good linking in the centres allowed Eldridge to dance her way through the defence to score.
In the last few minutes Buzzard finally exerted some pressure and a failure to get the ball out of the 22 gave the visitors a five metre scrum and two phases later the visitors scored in the final play of the game. Final score 22 – 5.
