Wymondham Women created another historic day for Wymondham RFC by recording their first ever league win.

A stiff breeze greeted the players off the coach which looked like it would impact on the game as it blew the length of the pitch. Hitchin allowed Wymondham to play with the breeze on their backs and from the first play of the game Wymondham camped in the opposition 22.  The resilient home team defence kept Wymondham at bay until ten minutes in strong direct running from Pigg resulted in the first try.  The conversion was good.

From the restart it was only a matter of time before Wymondham were again in the 22.  Kaciubskyj controlled the game at fly half calling moves and patterns with confidence and soon was able to release Eldridge who scored the first of her brace.  Conversion missed.  Several times there was good interplay between forwards and backs and support was omnipresent allowing phase after phase to be completed and before long the gaps were appearing and Kaciubskyj spotted half a gap and powered through to score and converting.  Half time score 26 – 0 in favour of the visitors.

Wymondham knew that they were likely to be pushed back into their own half by the Hitchin kickers using the wind and Clarke showed what an asset she is by returning the ball with interest time after time allowing the forwards always to move forward onto the ball.  Sustained pressure from Taylor Dyche and DeVaux resulted in a scrum 10 metres out on the right side of the pitch.  A quick heel and eight pick up allowed Taylor to crash through two defenders to score.

The majority of the game was played in the Hitchin 22 and although they tackled resolutely the pressure told and the last play of the game was Lockwood picking up from the base of the ruck and crashing over under the posts.    Final score Wymondham 36 Hitchin 0.
